Why you’re likely to never be satisfied with your creative work as a beginner

by

I love this recently published short film by Creavite called Nobody Tells This to Beginners:

It talks about this gap between ability and ambition, especially as someone brand new to a creative art. This is when that gap is the biggest. This is why it’s common for you to not like your work. You know what you like, and your work isn’t living up to that standard. Not yet.

“Your taste is still killer. Your taste is why your work disappoints you.”

There are a lot of people who will quit in this phase but, like the video says, this is perfectly normal and you need to know this. It goes on to say the only way to close this gap is by doing work. Lots of work. Setting goals and putting the time in.

There is no shortcut to success. The people whose work you love, perhaps aspire to and even compare yourself to, have all been there and they’ve all put in the work. Be gentle on yourself, but keep striving.
