Matador Network is seeking freelance travel pitches

by

Matador Network is seeking freelance pitches across a broad range of topics. Please spend some time browsing the various categories on our site to see what types of stories and topics we do and do not cover.

Rates range from $200 to $300 depending on the depth of research and interviews, writer experience, and photo availability.

Here are a few recent articles we really liked:

To apply:

  • Please share examples of relevant past published work (3-4 URLS and/or a portfolio link)
  • Include your pitch (A brief summary of your idea, why it’s compelling, why you should write it, etc)
  • Please include a proposed headline that matches Matador’s tone and style
  • A brief background of your writing experience
  • Please include your email address in the pitch
In February and March 2025, we’re especially looking for:
  • Articles around culinary travel
  • Articles around destinations and experiences that may disappear — for whatever reason — in the coming years
  • Articles around key March events: World Wildlife Day, Mardi Gras, Holi, St. Patrick’s Day, Mothers Day
  • Islands and cruises (note that we are not looking for cruise reviews)
We are not looking for:
  • Hotel or restaurant reviews (i.e. do not pitch us stories focused on a single hotel)
  • Lists or roundups
  • Guides to cities/destinations
  • Profiles of celebrities, influencers, or bloggers
  • Diaries/blog-style trip recaps
  • Promotional stories (don’t pitch us “why TK place is the perfect family vacation”), for example

Please take note of the following before you pitch:

  • Please, please — do not follow up with editors via email. We have one editor who reviews pitches and often get 200-300 pitches per call.
  • Because of that: if you don’t hear from us after two weeks, please consider it a pass. But we appreciate your time!
  • You can only submit this form one time. If you include more than one pitch, please separate them clearly in the form.
  • Do not submit entire articles
  • Do not use this form to propose anything other than editorial articles (no partnerships, social media content, PR agencies, etc)
  • We will be assigning articles on an unscheduled basis, based on both a compelling pitch and our changing monthly budgets.
  • Finally: please do not pitch hotel reviews, listicle-style round ups, affiliate content, blog-style trip recaps, or stories around future travel — wait until you’re back to pitch us.

We look forward to reading your pitches, and thank you!
