Travel filmmaking/video/editing
Hey there. I don’t see much in the way of filmmaking on the forum so keen to see who is up to what and to share any works in progress?
So I’ll go first! I am working on a pilot 3 part series. Its presenter driven and follows a solo female traveller to three awesome locations. The first one (the pilot) we shot in Tonga, and is currently in post. Hopefully this will secure some further funding and attention to become the three part series in mind.
This looks great Alexander…my partner loves whales, I’m sure she’d love to see this when it’s done. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve been learning how to use Adobe Premiere and After Effects and am having lots of fun with it. I definitely will be getting more into video editing in 2017! Here’s something I put together from my summer roadtrip across Canada, focused on the Atlantic provinces – https://www.facebook.com/369757736379338/videos/1256904047664698/
I’m trying to finish up some of my Galapagos videos. They’re not really a film per se but more of a travel video. I’m also using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects but I’m thinking of switching to Final Cuts Pro. The Creative Cloud Plan is expensive 🙁
I have a copy of an older version, 5.5 – I know there’ve been lots of additions to the newer versions, but it’ll do for now while I learn some fundamentals. I’ve never worked with Final Cuts.
I’m new to film, but my 2017 goal is to film more often than I photograph. It will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to it. At this point, I can’t afford Final Cut Pro and am only using iMovie, but I’m not going to let that stop me from practicing film.
Alexander, your video looks great. Are you using a Rode Dead Cat to maintain the sound of the wind? I don’t own one yet, so any tips would be helpful.
Hey guys,
I have been working on Earth Unraveled, the backpackers guide to travel. We have videos weekly so it has been a big learning curve with promotion. Take a flight through the avatar mountains in Zhangjagjie, China.
It was a combination of 15 flights over 3-4 days. The other videos on the channel are more character/narrative driven.
Let me know what you think
I just finished part 1 of my 3 part series through Portugal: would love any comments! It was an 11 day solo journey that I shot by myself. https://youtu.be/HSFuU3QaB98
Wow! Alex, I loved the clip you had up on Facebook, I hope all is going well with your documentary. Link the released version soon, can’t wait to see it. I personally enjoy writing a lot, although I often find myself working with Adobe After effects and Final Cut Pro. I’ve had a ride of a lifetime working on exciting projects, one of my most recent contributions is being worked on at MIT’s Media Lab. Where I and a group of researchers and media specialists, are trying to implement an environmental procedure through video form, to get more people directed towards a healthier environment.
Hey guys,
I’m currently working on a full length documentary I shot in Mongolia but I cut up a short from some of the highlights.
I do all my video work in Premiere and After effects for time lapses.
I’ve started filming about 2 years ago and continue to improve both my filmmaking as well as editing skills. I’m mostly interesting in travel / documentary style filmmaking and just joined this website.
My latest creation, an epic roadtrip during carnival weekend in Portugal can be seen here:

Constructive commentary appreciated. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing everyone! @jeff, those are epic shots! What’s the full-length documentary about? When will it be released? I’ve done a bit of traveling there and spent almost a week in one of those old Russian army vans. Didn’t go through a river like that though!
@carlo. Its about the challenges the rangers in the 3 parks around the Darkhad valley face day to day. From poachers to illegal logging and mining operations of Russians who illegally cross from siberia. It should be done in a couple months. This is my first time dealing with subtitles so its complicated.
And yeah those Russian vans😂…my time was spliy between those and hiking, horseback riding.

So awesome!!! I’d love to check these out! I love seeing what everyone is up to! I created and host the travel/adventure webseries Monica Goes on YouTube. It’s mostly focused on outdoor adventure and a lot of national parks but I’ve just started branching out with international episodes so exciting things coming! http://www.youtube.com/monicagoesshow
