Forums Writing Chapter 5 Pitches

Pitches

Here are my three pitches…(one is based on an already completed and submitted assignment, the other two are new, I hope this is OK).

Hi Hal,

I’m a student at MatadorU and blog at HeckticTravels.com. I left Canada to travel in 2009, having spent most of my time in South America before beginning my current exploration of Europe.

I’d like to offer the readers of Matador Trips insight into getting luxury at a discount in the Galapagos, in a piece titled: “Cruising the Galapagos Islands: How to Get What You Want, For Less.” While many visitors to the Galapagos will choose to book ahead of time at full price, I present a guide on how I was able to get the cruise I wanted, last minute, at a fraction of the cost.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Dalene

Hi Kate,

I’m a student at MatadorU and blog at HeckticTravels.com. I left Canada to travel in 2009, having spent most of my time in South America before beginning my current exploration of Europe.

I’d like to offer the readers of Matador Nights an itinerary I am considering myself titled: “See These Bands Now! Alternative Music in the UK for Fall, 2011”. As an avid music lover and traveler, I search listings wherever I go, and would like to profile six artists/bands (of varying popularity) playing at different venues around the UK from August thru September: Adele, Arcade Fire, Beirut, Black Lips, Interpol and The Maccabees. The post will focus on who they are, when and where to find them.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Dalene

Hi Julie,

I’m a student at MatadorU and blog at HeckticTravels.com. I left Canada to travel in 2009, having spent most of my time in South America before beginning my current exploration of Europe.

I’d like to offer the readers of Matador Change a piece titled: “Working With Kids in South America – A Guide to Two Organizations that are Making a Difference.” In my travels around South America, I volunteered for two months each at Centro Ñanta in Sucre, Bolivia and La Biblioteca Interactiva in Baños, Ecuador. Each organization is almost entirely dependent on volunteers and makes a big difference in the lives of local kids. The post will focus on what each organization does, what they are looking for in a volunteer, and how to get involved.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Dalene

Dalene-

These are all solid and if you’re game, I think you should pitch all three of them. In particular, I think Kate would be interested in your Nights piece. Be sure to check any existing Galapagos pieces on Trips and if there are any similarities, make mention of how your piece differs/adds something new. For the Change pitch, email Abbie at abbie@matadornetwork.com.

Julie – Thanks! I probably will try all three.

But just to be clear, would I be pitching these on spec?

And if there’s anything that Matador can do about getting me a press pass to any of these concerts, it would be MUCH appreciated!! Ha :)

Dalene-

Yes, they’d be pitched on spec. And if Kate accepts the Nights pitch, I’d be happy to write you a letter of assignment for the concerts.

Thanks Julie!

(Although, I have no idea what a letter of assignment is or does. TOTAL noob here.)

Hi Dalene,

Great to hear you worked at Nanta in Sucre, with Linda. We visited her as well (didn’t work as a volunteer though, but I did write a couple of articles on her projects). Did you enjoy it? When were you there?

Hey Karin – I actually didn’t work through Linda at Cafe Amsterdam, but worked closely with Ruth, one of the co-ordinators right at Nanta.

We really, really enjoyed it (and were there for Sept and Oct of 2009). I helped teach kids to swim, Pete organized English classes (that I also helped with), and he worked in the bakery (making stuff to sell at Cafe Amsterdam!) plus taught tennis. We were very, very busy, but loved every minute of it!

Someone is offering the readers of Matador Trips awareness into getting luxury at a reduced price in the Galapagos, in a piece named: Cruising the Galapagos Islands: How to Get What You Want, For Less. We had uk bestessays review in class. Many companions to the Galapagos will pick to book before time and in a hurry at full price, but this person is presenting a guide on how she was able to get the cruise she desired with lower cost.
